Project 365. A year in pictures. A new photo each day. ...or not.

10/19/10

Don't mean to jump ahead, but...

Tomorrow will be a busy day!

First:

Tomorrow is LGBT Spirit Day, (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) and people around the country will be wearing purple to show their support for the teens that recently took their lives due to gay bullying. According to Gayrights.change.org, LGBT Spirit Day was started by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan, who used her Tumblr account to spread the message. There are now multiple Facebook pages, with thousands of members vowing to wear purple tomorrow.

A message from one of the Facebook groups reads: It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 8 teenagers who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBT flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

RIP Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Eric Mohat, Meredith Rezak, Raymond Chase and Billy Lucas. You are loved.

So wear purple tomorrow in support of Spirit Day and in memory of the teenagers that have recently taken their lives.

SECOND:
Tomorrow is my brother in law Brian's birthday. He's coming to visit on Friday too! Can't wait to see you! Happy birthday other BIL. I hope you have a fabulous day!!! ...may all your dreams come true.

THIRD:
This week is Love your Body Week. http://loveyourbody.nowfoundation.org/ With all the skinny models and women of all ages striving to be a size 0, NOW (The National Organization of Women) is reminding us to love ourselves the way we are but putting together "LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK". The Season 10 America's Next Top Model winner Whitney Thompson is a plus sized model. ...and quite beautiful. You are way more than your weight ladies. Take time to appreciate all your good qualities and learn to love the skin you are in. With a positive or healthy body image, a woman has a real perception of her size and shape. She also feels comfortable with her body. With a negative body image, a woman has a distorted perception of her shape and size, compares her body to others, and feels shame and anxiety about her body. Being unhappy with your body can affect how you think and feel about yourself as a person. A poor body image can lead to emotional distress, low self-esteem, unhealthy dieting habits, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Developing a positive body image and a healthy mental attitude is crucial to a woman's happiness and wellness.
